Our trip to Bermuda, a relatively fast 5 day trip.

We left North Carolina on May 9th, 1992, with Riley Baker our perfect crew. We arrived in Bermuda May 14th at midnight! This is the Municipal dock in St George. We are rafted to two other boats. After 4 days rest and Brad as our new crew, we leave for the Azores on May the 18th. A year after our crossing this notice appeared in the Passage Notes column of Cruising World. Do not believe everything you read in the press!

Bermuda to the Azores, a relatively slow trip: 19 days.

The drifter goes up for the first time on June 3rd, after 16 days at sea. Claire takes advantage of it to repair a small tear in the jib. Finally land after 18 days at sea: Flores Island. The next day the harbor of Horta.

A week's rest in Horta.

A lot of changes in the harbor since Francis first visited in 1979. There is now a marina opposite the old sea wall where the boats used to raft many deep! But the tradition continues! On the sea wall we were guests of the French Oceanographic vessel the "D'ENTRECASTEAUX" . Brad having left we almost picked up a crew from the square rigger along the wall. We did not and have since never had another crew.

We left for La Rochelle on June 12th. Due to head winds what should have taken 10 days took 19 days!!

The last of the Azores. After 6 days at sea, our first visitor, a french fisherman. One of the very many sail changes on that leg. The main has a reef, the staylsail is up and the jib is being stowed away. Another 10 days before La Rochelle.

We finally arrive in La Rochelle, an historic harbour.

Finally we are close to the inner harbor in La Rochelle, we have to go between the two towers guarding the inner harbor, where our nephew had reserved a berth for us in the Bassin à flot. Air view of La Rochelle harbors. Our niece Claude, who lives in La Rochelle, and her three children visit E. Galois.
