We left Lebanon in the afternoon but did not tell them we were going to Israel. We proceeded West about 10 miles offshore and then headed South, our destination was Haifa. Our US chart indicated that we should approach Haifa due East. Around 2 am we heard a call on the VHF for a ship which was at our position! We answered, it was the Isreali army asking us to identify ourselves and give our destination. This we did and continued sailing South. After another half hour they called us again checking our destination. We told them Haifa and they asked us why we were not proceeding toward Haifa!! We told them we were sailing South to the latitude of Haifa before heading East. They told us not to bother and head straight for Haifa. When we were about one mile from the harbour we were met by a Navy speed boat that circled us and told us to proceed to the Haifa Yacht Club to check in. When we arrived there we met "Royal Salute", they were checking out of Israel and planing to winter in Antalya like us. They had spent two weeks in the Venitian harbour of Acra, a few miles North of Haifa, the spot they had left would be available for the next two weeks and they recommend it over staying in Haifa. So after checking in we went to Acco.

FeedingFeedingWe left Haifa on October 20th for Cyprus with How and Bunnie (shown at left). The crossing was uneventful and once in Larnaca we rented a car with How and Bunnie to visit South Cyprus, there are far fewer interesting archeological sites in the South. But of course there are Orthodox Churches. We saw an unusual icon, shown at right, in a chapel at St. Heracleidos Convent.

After a stop at Limasol we sailed back to Antalya to winter.
